BARRIOS EMPLOYEE AWARDS AND RECOGNITION - 1ST QUARTER 2009
HOUSTON, TX -
The Barrios Employee Awards and Recognition (BEAR) Team recently awarded six employees the Silver Quality Award. The BEAR Silver Quality Award is presented to 1% of Barrios employees each quarter whose contributions are so significant as to merit special recognition by their peers. Sandy Johnson, President of Barrios Technology, made presentations to the following.
David Bach, Increment Engineer / MIC
Nominated By Ben Pawlik, NASA OC3
David was nominated by his customer for the BEAR award based on his outstanding performance as the Increment 19 and 20 engineer and as a key contributor in planning for the transition to 6-Crew operations. Additionally, David led a significant effort in the handover of the Hazmat uplink coordination from the Increment Management Center (IMC) to the International Space Station (ISS) Biomedical Engineers. David also achieved his IMC console certification in half the normal time required.

Dan Jackson, Principal Senior Engineer / SPOC

Dan was nominated for his outstanding leadership and technical skills in resolving a potential pitch structural bias in the Ku-Band system. Performing his own analysis and then setting up an on orbit test he was able to determine that the system was performing nominally, eliminating the need to create and deliver 8 new Ku-Band Command and Control System Pre-Positioned Software Loads and saving the ISS Program thousands of dollars.

Derone Jenkins-Todd, Launch Package Engineer / ISSP/MIC

Derone was nominated for her outstanding dedication to the launch package team and applying excellent organization, coordination, and negotiation skills in helping reach agreement and document cargo transfer processes used both pre-flight and during real-time execution. Applying her understanding of the transfer operations and processes and using a common sense approach, she assumed the lead role in taking the lessons learned and developed a plan to resolve the issues.

Mark Krajchovich, Engineer / Boeing ESS
Nominated By Ivan Berrios, Boeing VIPER - ISS Propulsion
Mark was nominated for his exceptional contributions to the Vehicle Integrated, Performance, and Resources team. In his short tenure, he has become certified as a shift lead in the Mission Evaluation Room for the Programmable Read Only Memory console and has taken the initiative to suggest and implement process improvements that have greatly enhanced operations. Mark’s initiative and capabilities are greatly beyond his limited time in the group and has resulted in his inclusion in Constellation work typically limited to Boeing employees.

Kevin Reister, Software Engineering Services Technical Lead / BC
Nominated By Judith Peace / BC
Kevin was nominated for consistently producing excellent results promoting the Barrios image throughout the Bioastronautics Contract. His high level of performance and quality of work is consistent not only as a technical lead for the software development team but also throughout our entire Information Technology department. Kevin’s skills are being proven during the busiest time of our year. Prior to the new Government Fiscal Year, we receive new requirements from both NASA and our prime contractor to update our Task Information Management System application, one of the most critical applications we develop and support.

Don Smith, Staff Technical Professional / SPOC

Don did an outstanding job as the 15A Electrical Power Systems Training Lead preparing the crew and flight controllers for a very complex and challenging assembly mission in which the final ISS solar arrays and batteries were successfully delivered, deployed, and activated. His leadership, dedication, technical excellence, and outstanding teamwork during all phases of preflight training contributed greatly to the success of this very important mission.
