BARRIOS SPONSORS UNIVERSITY GRAD STUDENT ON CAPITOL HILL
HOUSTON, TX -
Barrios supported the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership by sponsoring a student on behalf of Citizens for Space Exploration (CSE). Michael Rutkowski, a graduate student at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, traveled with other students and representatives to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. in support of the human space exploration program, encompassing the Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and Constellation programs.
Mr. Rutkowski, who majored in astrophysics, is from Urbanna, VA. When asked about his participation in the CSE trip he replied, “Federal support for NASA’s funding of science and new technologies is a driving force for the American economy, and this support allows Americans to enjoy a high standard of living and to compete globally. I look forward to meeting with the senators and representatives on the Hill to educate and inform them of the role that NASA plays in strengthening the U.S. economy. I hope also to press our elected representatives to continue to support space science, aeronautics and astrophysical research funded through NASA so that the United States can continue to maintain its position on the global stage.”
This year marked the 18th annual trip with CSE to Washington for meeting with congressional representatives in 341 offices from 49 states. It has grown to be the nation’s largest (i.e. most congressional offices contacted) pro-NASA, pro-space exploration grassroots annual trip to Washington.
