BARRIOS EMPLOYEE AWARDS AND RECOGNITION - 3RD QUARTER 2009
Houston, Tx -
The Barrios Employee Awards and Recognition (BEAR) Team recently awarded six employees the Silver Quality Award for the third quarter of 2009. The BEAR Silver Quality Award is presented to 1% of Barrios employees each quarter whose contributions are so significant as to merit special recognition by their peers. Sandy Johnson, President of Barrios Technology, made the presentations to the following.
Nick O'Dosey, Senior Engineer/SPOC
Nominated by: Jerry Yencharis, SPOC
As Lead Rendezvous, Guidance and Procedures Officer (RGPO) for STS-125, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) repair mission and STS-400, the STS-125 rescue mission, Nick provided outstanding support in the preflight activities for both of these missions simultaneously, as well as great support during the STS-125 mission. This was the first non-ISS shuttle rendezvous flight in 10 years. Nick's efforts ensured a safe, successful mission. His preparation and communication prior to the flight enabled the rendezvous team to operate at a high level of awareness and function smoothly as a team. Thankfully, the plan for STS-400 did not have to be executed, but if it had, a solid plan was in place largely due to Nick's efforts. His performance reinforced the strong standards of Barrios Technology and provided the customer with a high quality product.

Dana Tobeck. Project Controls Specialist/OPIC
Nominated by: Linda Milam, OPIC / SAIC
Dana is recognized for her excellence in developing an improved product and process for performing schedule assessments in support of OPIC. The new tool takes into account information gathered from interviews, analysis, and projects schedule completion probabilities. Her commitment to the project required her to work with multiple groups in Orion to gather and analyze data and to help change the paradigm to how schedules were analyzed.
Karen Alfaro, Increment Engineer/ MIC
Nominated by: Ben Pawlik, NASA
Karen is recognized for her outstanding support to the Requirements and Increment Integration Team as an Increment Engineer (IE) in the planning and execution of Increments 19 and 20. Karen recognized the challenges in additional monitoring and support requirements upon six-person crew arrival, and developed a transitional support plan using a third IE while personally maintaining cognizance of all Increment crew activities, Increment meeting support, Certificate of Flight Readiness (COFR) products, and Current Stage Requirements Document (CSRD) updates. Karen also, in conjunction with the Crew Time Working Group (CTWG), collected and worked to develop and manage Cross Station Crew Time products, which allowed better tracking of crew time among the Partners.

Nominated by: R. Gauvreau/ Barrios Suzan Voss/NASA
Serving as a Launch Package Engineer (LPE), Shelly is being recognized for her innovation in developing new software capabilities in response to evolving customer requirements. This new capability produces a standard report format common to all missions delivering cargo to ISS and results in a significant reduction in hours required to manipulate data to generate weekly cargo allocation reports.
Libby Jordan, MIC Waste Consumables POC/MIC
Nominated by: Jackie Prewitt, MIC
Libby is recognized for her dedication to certifing Shuttle waste containers to be launched on HTV, Progress and Soyuz vehicles for use on the ISS. She has been instrumental in developing several process improvements for the MIC Manifest and Waste Teams. Pamela McCarthy, DMI Lead/PI&C
Nominated by: Mary Lins, PI&C
Pamela is recognized for the leadership and organizational skills as an ISS Data Manager. Most recently she organized a small team to assume responsibility for the Program Master List of Work Instructions which had been neglected for many years. For the past 5 years, the Master List had not been properly maintained by another organization. Knowing that the PI&C follow-on contract called for the DMI team to take over this Master List, Pamela set to work to excavate and analyze what was curently available. For months, she and her small team worked digently to find the missing Work Instructions, locate the actual NASA POC, and begin to put together a valid and curent Master List. She and her team completed this endeavor before it was required at the start of the PI&C follow-on.
