BARRIOS EMPLOYEE AWARDED SPACE FLIGHT AWARENESS HONORS

Houston, Tx -
Barrios Technology engineer Meghan Erne was recently honored as a Space Flight Awareness (SFA) honoree for her work in support of NASA’s Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs at Johnson Space Center.

Erne, who received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park, serves as an Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLSS) Flight Controller for the International Space Station (ISS). She was recognized for her exceptional technical expertise, dedication, teamwork, and leadership that resulted in a cost savings and supported the successful efforts leading to six person crew operations on the ISS.

As an SFA honoree, Erne traveled to Kennedy Space Center where she received a tour of the complex and viewed the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis on May 14.

"I am honored to be recognized for my work,” said Erne. “The launch was absolutely amazing to see. We were as close as is safely allowed and you could really feel the launch. It’s a shame there will only be two or three more for people to experience.”

The SFA Program is a NASA managed motivational program geared at ensuring that employees involved in human space flight are aware of the importance of their role in promoting astronaut safety and mission success in the critical, challenging task of flying humans in space by communicating and educating the government and industry workforce about human space flight.

Meghan Erne is presented the SFA Launch Honoree Award at a local reception. Presenting the awards was Dick Covey, USA’s former President and CEO and Loren Shriver, USA's Vice President of Engineering and Integration.
