Silver Performance Awards Presented to Barrios Employees
JOHNSON SPACE CENTER (Houston, TX): Barrios Technology recently recognized employees with Silver BEAR (Barrios Employee Award and Recognition) awards. Each recipient was commended for their high level of expertise and outstanding performance supporting Barrios contracts with NASA’s space exploration programs. Employees recognized included Rachel Hobson, Cody Jones, Enrique Moeller, and Roger Weiss.
Rachel Hobson was recognized with a Silver BEAR award for her communications support as part of the International Space Station (ISS) Mission and Program Integration (MAPI) contract. Hobson, joining Barrios from outside of the space industry, has brought with her innovative ideas on how to communicate the research being conducted on the ISS in an understandable and relatable manner. Hobson has been commended for creating more engaging tweets and balancing written communications with graphical representations. Her insight to utilizing social media has successfully increased engaged social media followers. Hobson has not only proven herself to our external audiences, but has also achieved the trust and support from her NASA counterparts. She brings such a high level of enthusiasm and a love for space, that it is truly inspiring to those around her.

Cody Jones was recognized with a Silver BEAR award for his leadership as the training lead for the PAYCOM (Payload Communications) team. As a certified instructor for numerous training courses both for Payload Developers and flight controllers, Jones is commended for always looking to improve training and pro-actively creating various training scripts to aid in the process. NASA management recently recommended Jones’ trainee gate system to be a pathfinder for other teams to use. Jones is highly regarded by both NASA team leads and his peers. Numerous flight controllers have commented how comfortable it makes them feel knowing Cody will be on console with them handling the PAYCOM duties for the day.

Enrique Moeller was recognize with a Silver BEAR award for his dedication and knowledge in supporting ground qualification testing for the Capsule Parachute Assembly System (CPAS) Project. As a subject matter expert in aerial delivery operations and military aircraft operations Moeller continually uses his 20 years of experience to increase the projects capability to perform aerial delivery testing from high-altitudes. An extremely valuable capability, needed to collect parachute load data and qualify the Orion capsule parachute system. tracked and implemented procedural rigging steps for aircraft extraction and drogue parachute integration. In addition, he built upon an innovative relationship with Holloway Houston Inc. (HHI); an outside contractor, offering a testing capability outside the capabilities of on-site labs at Johnson Space Center that resulted in an 85% cost savings to the project while providing critical dampening data needed to validate the analysis team simulation mode.

Roger Weiss was recognized with a Silver BEAR award for this dedication and enthusiasm in ISS communications and outreach. Weiss, a member of the MAPI Program Science Research and Imagery team, is always on the lookout for innovative and fun ways to engage audiences. He recently developed a Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) origami project for use at the SpaceX-8 NASA social media event in Florida. He collaborated team members to develop the handouts and designed the instruction sheets and folding papers so they would be ready in time for the event. Weiss was also recognized for his outreach at the US Science and Engineering Festival in Washington DC where he spent hours talking with hundreds of children and adults enthusiastically sharing the stories of space station research.

The Barrios Employee Awards and Recognition or BEAR Award recognizes quality performance and outstanding support of customer and company goals. Up to one percent of the current number of employees can receive the Silver Award each quarter. Silver award winners automatically qualify for the annual Gold award which is presented at an annual awards and recognition reception.
