Barrios Recognizes Employees with Performance Awards
JOHNSON SPACE CENTER (Houston, TX): Barrios Technology recently presented employees with Silver BEAR (Barrios Employee Award and Recognition) awards. Each recipient was commended for their high level of expertise and outstanding performance supporting NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) Mission and Program Integration (MAPI) contract. Employees recognized included Karen Bratton, Erik Marsh, Erin Thornton, and the six-member ICF Team (Mary Kerber, Jessica Henderson, Ann Herring, Richard Morphis, Todd O’Neal, and Mark Zuteck).
Karen Bratton was presented with a Silver Bear award for her exceptional support to the Safety team in completely revamping the Safety Review Panel (SRP) SharePoint site, calendar, and automated scheduling workflows. Bratton, supporting meeting services, took the initiative to learn the existing SRP SharePoint workflows and then create a workflow diagram with instructions and images to educate the Safety Engineers and help manage workflows better.
Bratton redesigned the SRP SharePoint calendar adding more information to calendar entries, improved tracking of panel comments for reviewers to more easily see due dates, simplified data tracking for Safety Planning Forum, simplified Tech Writer scheduling, and streamlined meeting information into one location. Bratton’s nomination commended her ability to efficiently organize and prioritize workload while maintaining quality and attention to detail. “She focuses on putting the team first and ensures all their needs are met.”
Erik Marsh was presented with a Silver BEAR award for his outstanding leadership and management of the ISS Program Risk Management process. Marsh was named the ISS Program Risk Management Integrator in February 2016 and has proactively and effectively coordinated across all ISS organizations. Marsh has improved ISS Risk Management training and has been highly responsive to customer requests.
He has taken on the role of integrating the process, managing the ISS Risk Management Application (IRMA) database, coordinating and reporting at the Program Risk Advisory Board and during the Certification of Flight Readiness process. Marsh was recognized for his consistency in delivering high-quality products, 100 percent on-time, fully independently and making improvements to the process of his own initiative. The ISS Risk Management Process is one that requires attention and Marsh’s organization and strong relationship with the risk points of contact has resulted in zero stale risks and 100 percent on-time mitigation plans. He has quickly earned the respect and confidence of his MAPI Safety and Mission Assurance team and the NASA customer.
Erin Thornton was presented with a Silver Bear award for her leadership, responsiveness, and dedication to leading the development of a new dashboard report designed to help the ISS Program quickly see which Change Requests (CRs) are lagging in the Change Management process and identify issues that may need to be addressed. The Program Planning and Control Office requested an automated dashboard to improve the identification of cost bearing CRs moving slowly through the ISS change process.
Despite ever changing requirements Thornton remained positive and persistent throughout the development process. Her flexibility, determination, and ability to creatively drive to solutions resulted in a dashboard that automatically pulls data from the required system to generate the requested report and subsequently replacing four other existing reports. Thornton’s nomination commended her on her outstanding communication skills, “Throughout the development process she demonstrated her professionalism and knowledge in communicating the challenges she was working and the steps she was taking to overcome them. Despite the numerous challenges, she was always responsive and positive and worked diligently to deliver the product desired by her customer.”
The six-member ISS Conference Facility (ICF) Team was presented with a Silver Bear award for their dedication and teamwork in completing significant upgrades to the conference facility with minimal impact to the ICF customers. The upgrades included the addition of chair rails to prevent damage to walls, a complete repaint of the facility, new furniture, and ClickShare wireless systems were added to the small conference rooms.
Significant planning and coordination with customers and vendors along with long shifts, evening, and weekend support was required to complete the upgrades with minimal impacts to customers. With the exception of the installation of chair rails and painting which was performed in the evenings and weekends, the ICF was closed for one day to complete all other upgrades. By coordinating and pre-staging, all deliveries, setups, and installations were completed successfully and the facility opened 100 percent functional the next business day. As stated in the nomination “the team’s dedication in completing all of the upgrades was nothing short of exceptional and was completely focused on customer satisfaction”.
The Barrios Employee Awards and Recognition or BEAR Award recognizes quality performance and outstanding support of customer and company goals. Up to one percent of the current number of employees can receive the Silver Award each quarter. Silver award winners automatically qualify for the annual Gold award which is presented at an annual awards and recognition reception.
