Barrios Technology Awarded Commercial Space Contract
Woman-Owned Small Business to Provide Systems Engineering and Integration Support to Sierra Nevada Corporation and the Dream Chaser® Cargo System for NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services 2 Program
HOUSTON, Texas: Barrios Technology was recently awarded a contract by Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) to provide systems engineering services in support of SNC’s Dream Chaser Cargo System under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services 2 (CRS2) contract.
“Barrios supports Dream Chaser Cargo System integration activities with NASA that lead to the development and processing of verification closure plans and, ultimately, vehicle certification. We are excited to have this opportunity to partner with SNC and aid in the design and development of their unique Dream Chaser Cargo System," said Robert McAfoos, Barrios Technology President.
Currently, Barrios provides systems engineering and International Space Station (ISS) integration support to assist in the design and development of SNC’s Dream Chaser spacecraft. Barrios brings technical expertise in requirements management, including decomposition, flow down and maintenance of the Dream Chaser requirement set.
Barrios also provides expertise on manifest and cargo integration activities. Company engineers participate in the execution of cargo design and development activities to ensure compliance with NASA’s Cargo Transport Interface Requirements. The team supports the development of a pressurized and unpressurized cargo integration concept of operations, the definition of interfaces, and participates in the advancement of new design efforts to ensure implementation of cargo requirements.
SNC’s Dream Chaser Cargo System is being developed as part of NASA’s CRS2 program, designed to obtain commercial cargo delivery services to the ISS, dispose of unneeded cargo, and return research samples and other cargo from the ISS back to NASA and the user community. Under the terms of the CRS2 contract, the Dream Chaser Cargo System, a reusable, lifting-body vehicle, will launch a minimum of six cargo resupply missions to the ISS.
