Space Center’s Super NOVA Safety Award is Presented to Barrios Technology

April 16, 2017

JOHNSON SPACE CENTER (Houston, TX) Barrios Technology’s Mission and Program Integration (MAPI) contract was recently presented the 2016 Super NOVA award at this year’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) Contractor Safety Forum (CSF) held on March 28, 2017.  This is the fourth consecutive year that MAPI has been recognized by the forum for excellence in its safety and health program and its second year to achieve Super NOVA status.

MAPI’s safety mission is to provide an extraordinary safety awareness program with zero incidents and injuries through leadership and employee ownership of safety for themselves and for others.  As part of this mission, the monthly Communiqué online newsletter provides safety news and topics to MAPI employees. Employee volunteers support JSC safety activities, and the MAPI Safety & Health Administrator consistently attends JSC safety meetings. The MAPI contract did not have any recordable injuries or incidents in 2016.  Employees attended contract hosted “Healthy Lunch” sessions with dietician Gail Dorth, while the contract also provided breakfast for the June Contractor Safety Forum. Many employees participated in health and physical activities. The MAPI Movers team participated in the NASA Fitness Challenge, and the MAPI Marvels softball team took home the championship title from JSC’s Starport sports league.

The JSC CSF Safety Excellence award was created to recognize contractor organizations that demonstrate excellence in safety and health and significant participation in JSC safety and health activities.  The CSF scores each company’s application for the year and recognizes the top contractors.
