Barrios Presents Performance Awards to Five Employees
JOHNSON SPACE CENTER (Houston, TX): Five Barrios Technology employees were recently presented with the quarterly Silver BEAR award. These employees were selected based on nominations presented from their management or peers in their work area. Each recipient was commended for their high level of expertise and outstanding performance supporting NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) Program. Employees recognized included Jacky Davis, Jorge Charriez, Khaled Sliman, Scott Stephens, and Raul Tijernia.
Jorge Charriez was presented with the Silver BEAR award for his outstanding performance, leadership, and superior supply chain/logistics management skills as a property custodian. Charriez provides support to various NASA customers including Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Space Exploration (SpaceX), Oceaneering Space Systems and NASA centers; Kennedy Space Center (KSC), White Sands Test Facility (WSTF), Goddard Research Center (GRC), Plum Brook Station, the European Space Agency (ESA) and educational institutes. His pride and dedication enable the division to meet all shipping/project/program requirements and schedules without any costly delays by maintaining excellent relationships with vendors and ensuring the flow of space hardware remains unhampered throughout the entire distribution process.

Jacky Davis was presented with the Silver BEAR award for his outstanding leadership and dedication in leading the database related activities for the Telemetry Reconfiguration (TR) and Common Data Exchange Format (CDEF) projects at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC). Davis’ extensive Oracle knowledge and demonstrated skill set on initial assignments was recognized by the COLSA prime contractor. This ISS Program-critical project automates data needed for new space station payloads and is projected to eliminate hundreds of hours of annual labor.

Khaled Sliman was presented with the Silver BEAR award for his invaluable knowledge and dedication to the ISS Manifest Reengineering project. Sliman technical expertise and problem solving abilities combined with his commitment to delivering a reliable product have helped to keep this complex and high profile software development project on track. His customer-focused approach has proven significant as development continues. This attention to detail has made him a trusted member of the Application Development team, and a go-to person when an issue requires work. With a large development afford like Manifest Reengineering, Sliman’s focus and ability are crucial to success.

Scott Stephens was presented with the Silver BEAR award for his outstanding support in the maturation of the Payload Operations Integration (POI) organization as an ISS function. His contributions in assisting MSFC in navigating the ISS Program’s processes and expectations have provided streamlined flight readiness steps for Payload Developer (PD) training, introduction to Mission and Program Integration Contract (MAPI) business processes, and improved web integration between POI Center and POI Function (POIF). Stephens’ breadth of ISS Program/MAPI knowledge spanning Certification of Flight Readiness (CoFR), meeting support, configuration management, and the ISS Program have ensured not only requirements success but provided structure and organizational approaches to a young MSFC organization.

Raul Tijerina was presented with the Silver BEAR award for his professionalism and innovativeness in supporting new methods in displaying graphics throughout the various ISS facilities. Tijerina has developed an excellent relationship with the ISS customer and gone above and beyond in responding to their requirements. He has been highly organized and managed multiple tasks while working within budget restrictions. Tijerina worked with graphics lab personnel to produce products on non-traditional materials and create professional artwork displays to enhance the work environment.
