Barrios Recognizes Employees with Quarterly Performance Awards

JOHNSON SPACE CENTER (Houston, TX): Barrios Technology recently presented employees with the Silver BEAR (Barrios Employee Award and Recognition) awards. Each recipient was recognized for their high level of expertise and outstanding performance supporting NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) Program. Employees recognized included Cynthia Chism, Georgia Hurst, Nicole Rose and Beth Yager.

Cynthia Chism was recently presented with the Silver BEAR award for her outstanding support to the Orion Crew & Service Module (CSM) Integrated Product Team (IPT). Chism maintains a high level of performance in her tasks, coordinating with the CSM technical team to demonstrate the impact of budget changes on CSM planning. She demonstrates a clear understanding of the CSM activities needed to meet the Orion Program’s goals.

Chism’s nomination cited, “she remains the key to meeting our scheduling needs. She has a great work ethic and will often stay late and work weekends to meet a CSM deadline.” Chism’s efforts have been critical in integrating NASA and Lockheed Martin schedules.

Georgia Hurst was recently presented with the Silver BEAR award for her superior performance and leadership in Configuration Management (CM) on the Mission and Program Integration (MAPI) contract. As the leading CM subject matter expert, Hurst has not only provided exceptional customer support, but also inspires the next generation of CM specialists on the MAPI contract. Her expertise, oversight, and commitment to excellence, especially during an unplanned transition of CM leadership, has ensured dependable quality CM products and services.

In addition to her own work, Hurst has worked to ensure that quality products and services are provided across the team as a whole. After recognizing challenges associated with an ISS Safety Requirements Document change, Hurst stepped in and took the initiative to ensure the proper capture of 1083 unique evaluation comment line items in COSMOS, working with each organization to guarantee that all inputs were correct. Additionally, she has provided requirement inputs to future legacy COSMOS upgrades to provide consistency across toolsets and promote a more electronic process.

Nicole Rose was recently presented with the Silver BEAR award for her work supporting the Research Communications Team as part of the International Space Station (ISS) Mission and Program Integration (MAPI) contract. Her innovative ideas on using video editing skills to bring light to the research being conducted on the ISS has resulted in high-quality video products that are frequently completed on a short turn-around time.

Rose has created several impactful videos on ISS Research that contribute to the team’s social media strategy to leverage amplification across NASA’s platforms. These videos have gained her enthusiastic recognition from NASA Headquarters.

The NASA customer commented on Rose’s performance, “she routinely excels in coming up with great ideas and producing exceptional work.” She maintains the highest standard of personal integrity, good judgement, and stringent work ethic on a daily basis. The relationships she has created in the video community at Johnson Space Center (JSC) in the Public Affairs Office (PAO) and ISS Communications Group (OX) have ensured that the team’s work is published to the widest audiences possible.

Beth Yager was recently presented with the Silver BEAR award for her effort to develop the System Description Document for the CST-100 Commercial Crew vehicle. Yager went above and beyond completing the product in less than 2 months, as opposed to the typical 4-6 months, while ensuring the document met the needs of the ISS Program and Commercial Crew Program (CCP) management.

Through her organizational skills and knowledge, Yager maintained data security while utilizing almost 100 sources along with considerable other data elements to build the document. She coordinated all technical material and met with subsystem experts, to build consensus and meet the needs of the NASA and IP partners as well as accelerate approval of the document. This time consuming and difficult process was done in addition to Yager’s typical work load as the visiting vehicle integration engineer (VVIE) for the CST-100 crew vehicle.

The Barrios Employee Awards and Recognition or BEAR Award recognizes quality performance and outstanding support of customer and company goals. Up to one percent of the current number of employees can receive the Silver Award each quarter. Silver award winners automatically qualify for the annual Gold award which is presented at an annual awards and recognition reception.
