Barrios Recognizes Employees with Annual Awards
JOHNSON SPACE CENTER (Houston, TX): Barrios Technology recently held a luncheon to recognize their employees who were recipients of awards from the 2018 Barrios Employee Awards and Recognition (BEAR) program. The luncheon recognized all 2018 Silver BEAR winners as well as employee receiving service awards. The Gold BEAR award recipient was announced along with the annual corporate Emy Award for community service winner.
Rad Sinyak was presented with the Gold BEAR award for his outstanding efforts to design, develop and lead NASA's Project Mars Competition to engage the creative community across the world by inviting them to visualize NASA plans for deep space exploration through submission of a short film or poster. Sinyak dedicated more than two years to the successful design, execution and completion of Project Mars working directly with NASA Headquarters to complete and promote the competition. Sinyak’s effort to initiate, execute, and complete the project resulted in the receipt of 454 poster entries from 17 countries and 120 short films representing 9 countries.
His innovation and dedication are demonstrated in the component of the contest that included Cinemark Theaters as a Project Mars sponsor. Sinyak contacted and negotiated with Cinemark Theater representatives and secured their commitment to join the Project Mars team as a. promotion and screening sponsor. One of the most visible achievements of the project was securing an agreement with Cinemark to screen the winning film ahead of the release of the film "First Man". On October 11, 2018 Cinemark screened the winning film in 270 theaters nationwide, reaching 23,800 viewers.
The Emy Award recognizes an employee who contributed beyond the workplace in service to the community. Barrios selected Kelley Evans to be recognized with the 2018 Emy Award.
Evans was honored for her efforts volunteering at BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions. Serving as a volunteer since 2015, Evans has generously given hundreds of hours to the shelter serving as a photographer assistant and working with families on adoptions. When dealing with the 400+ dogs that BARC has at any given time, efficiency is key while also trying to help the dog feel special, loved, and comforted. As the photographer’s assistant Evans helps transfer the dogs from their kennel out to the dog run where they take the photos. Her soothing and loving demeanor with the animals helps calm and soothe the nervous dogs. Evans helps the photographer get the best shots they need for adoptions.
Evans says one of the most rewarding aspects of her volunteer work is working with families on the adoption process. Working with families that come to the shelter looking to adopt Evans helps to pair them up with a dog that would be right for them.
The shelter is constantly in need of anything they can get their hands on for the sake of the animals. Evans has reached out to friends/family and received donations of old sheets/blankets/towels that would otherwise have been thrown away. She’s also worked with Barrios to collect donations of toys/food/etc for BARC. Every little bit helps and it really does make a difference.
Barrios also recognized numerous employees for their years of service. Barrios presented 5-Year Awards to 10 employees, eight employees received 10-Year pins, two 15-Year Awards, five 20-Year Award and one 35-Year Service Award pin. Two employees were recognized for completing advanced degrees; Ashley Rapson received her Master of Science in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University and Michael Mein completed his MBA/Business Administration from Texas A&M University.
