Barrios Technology Selects Third Quarter Employee Award Honorees
BARRIOS TECHNOLOGY (Houston, TX): Barrios Technology recognized a group of employees with the 2021 third-quarter Silver BEAR (Barrios Employee Award and Recognition) awards. Each recipient was commended for their outstanding performance supporting Barrios’ contracts with NASA’s Human Space Flight Program. Employees recognized included Jessica Burger; Tammy Fowler; Rebecca Juillerat; Desiree Smith; the International Space Station (ISS) Research Client Service+Satisfaction Team members Pilar Archila, Tricia Cartee, Destiny Doran, Felisha Drake-Hill, Barbara Lewis, and Mary Lins; and the Vehicle Master Database (VMDB) Team members Kevin Brooks, Wes Brown, Chris Martinez, and George Thomas.
Jessica Burger was awarded the Barrios Silver BEAR for her role as a Project Coordinator for the Human Lander System (HLS) Program Office. Burger singlehandedly stood up and is maintaining a new SharePoint for the HLS Option-N Human-Rated Cargo Lander. This hardware is required to be firewalled from the other HLS SharePoint instances. This was a time-sensitive and high-visibility project. Burger was the sole point of contact for the HLS organization to aid leads in identifying and updating all documents to be compliant with the new Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) requirements. This required several hours outside of normal business hours to be accomplished.
Tammy Fowler was awarded the Silver BEAR for her dedication and performance as part of the Space Station Mission Support Operations Contract (MSOC) Tech Pubs team. Fowler’s knowledge in Microsoft products, SharePoint, as well as Documentation allowed her to step into all aspects of the 2-person department. The Tech Pubs workload is complex, Fowler learned the different levels very quickly and was able to tackle the intricacies in maintaining configuration management of documents, monthly metrics, daily/weekly reporting, and quality assurance. Teleworking due to COVID protocols accelerated the challenges for this small department where Fowler has contributed to a near perfect error free delivery rate.
Rebecca Juillerat was awarded the Barrios Silver BEAR for the contributions to the success of NASA’s Gateway Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) production office. Her support during the HALO Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and the Co-Manifested Vehicle (CMV) Sync Review were instrumental in the success of those reviews. Since the HALO is the first of the Gateway elements to be launched, its development is taking place on an accelerated schedule and Juillerat’s systems engineering support is vital to that effort.
Desiree Smith was awarded the Barrios Silver BEAR for her dedication as a Utilization Flight Lead (UFL) and the Space Station mission. For the past seven months after the departure of a NASA colleague, Smith, with minimal help, ensured that the Research Integration Office (OZ) and Mission Integration & Operations office (OC) had all the integrated data available to make timely decisions regarding mission durations, launch opportunities, and impacts to science on specific missions.
The ISS Research Client Service+Satisfaction (CSS) Team was awarded a Barrios Silver BEAR for their dedication in performing a unique and critically important service to NASA and the Space Station research client community. The CSS team members provide a neutral, third-party feedback collection and reporting process that entails station user evaluations by payload developers’ and principal investigators’ of their past and ongoing experiences interacting with NASA’s people, processes, and tools throughout their journey to and from the orbiting laboratory. This special initiative carried out by the team has led to a higher satisfaction among clients’ involvement in a comprehensive, complex integration flow and eventual operations of their visionary science and technology demonstration research by onboard station crews. Past and current team members recognized include Pilar Archila, Tricia Cartee, Destiny Doran, Felisha Drake-Hill, Barbara Lewis, and Mary Lins. The team is led by award nominator Roger Weiss.
The Vehicle Master Database (VMDB) Team was awarded the Barrios Silver BEAR for their work with the recent upgrade the International Space Station VMDB to Oracle version 19c and APEX version 19. This was an unusually large and complex upgrade that has historically been a challenge. Barrios team members, Kevin Brooks, Wes Brown, Chris Martinez, and George Thomas, identified several key areas for efficiencies and contributed to key upgrades to the system which was delivered to the customer approximately 5 months ahead of schedule.
The Barrios Employee Awards and Recognition or BEAR Award Program recognizes quality performance and outstanding support of customer and company goals. Up to one percent of the current number of employees can receive the Silver Award each quarter. Silver award winners automatically qualify for the annual Gold award which is presented at an annual awards and recognition reception.
