Barrios Technology Selected for Missile Defense Agency’s SHIELD Award

Barrios Technology has been named among 1,014 companies as an awardee of the Missile Defense Agency’s new SHIELD IDIQ – the Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense contract. This is a major 10-year contract vehicle that the U.S. Department of Defense will use to quickly and efficiently acquire the technologies and services needed to strengthen America’s homeland missile-defense systems.

SHIELD has a total ceiling of up to US$151 billion shared across all awardees. Instead of issuing many separate contracts, MDA will use SHIELD to buy a wide range of capabilities through one streamlined process. These capabilities include systems engineering, software and digital engineering, testing, modeling and simulation, artificial intelligence and machine learning, integrated sensing, production, and long-term system support. All of this work will help build a more modern, layered defense system that can detect and respond to threats such as ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles.

Being selected for SHIELD places Barrios among a competitive group of companies approved to compete for future task orders under the contract. This award reflects Barrios’ strong technical qualifications, fair pricing, and long history of supporting complex national-defense and aerospace programs. As MDA releases task orders, Barrios will have opportunities to support areas such as systems and software engineering, mission analysis, digital engineering, data integration, and other work that contributes to the nation’s missile-defense readiness.

The SHIELD IDIQ represents a significant shift in how the government develops and purchases advanced defense systems. It offers more speed, flexibility, and coordination across programs. For Barrios, being part of SHIELD reinforces the company’s commitment to U.S. national security and positions Barrios for meaningful contributions to future missile-defense efforts.
