SYSTEMS ENGINEERING & INTEGRATION

Our high-end Systems Engineering and Integration solutions and capabilities deliver reliable and innovative approaches to meet our customers’ multifaceted requirements. Seeing the space system as a whole, Barrios covers all aspects of systems engineering such as requirements development, analysis, concepts of operation, trades and studies, modeling, integration, verification, validation, testing, and documentation.

By incorporating needs and requirements, we design the architecture of a system, define its building strategy, and oversee the integration of subsystems, as well as the verification and validation of the overall system.

We perform across the systems engineering spectrum, from requirements development, analysis, concepts of operation, and trades and studies, to modeling, integration, verification, validation, testing, and documentation.

MODEL-BASED SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

The workings of a space mission are increasingly complex and full of exceptions and dependencies. This makes model-based systems engineering ideal as it reduces documentation, makes data more accessible, and ensures digital continuity throughout the lifecycle of a space mission, across disciplines and throughout supply chains. The transition to digitization and model-based systems engineering are key enablers to increasing in-orbit demonstration and verification efficiencies.

REQUIREMENTS MANAGEMENT

Our engineers leverage their knowledge to overcome the complexity and interdependencies of systems to streamline development and accelerate deployment. We define, document, trace, verify, and validate requirements with discipline and rigor providing our customers with realistic and comprehensive system requirements.

Our strong requirements management plans are critical to success and enable our teams to control the scope and direct the development lifecycle, using tools that assist in reducing costs and improve quality control.

COMPLEX VEHICLE AND SYSTEM ANALYSIS

Barrios’ skilled engineers apply critical analysis skills and techniques to complex problems such as vehicle mass properties, vibration analysis, thrust analysis, stress, fracture mechanics, thermal, high-fidelity dynamic models, mission timelines, proximity operations, and human factors.

ADVANCED HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE DESIGN

We design systems hardware and software such as thermal protection, communications, automated systems, autonomous operations including rendezvous and docking, advanced designs, and tools integral to onboard space vehicles.

SYSTEMS AND SPACE VEHICLE INTEGRATION

Barrios provides manifest analysis and coordination for all vehicles transporting items to the International Space Station (ISS), which includes visiting vehicles as well as commercial space vehicles from the US, Russia, Japan or Europe.

SIMULATIONS & TESTING

Barrios develops and provides simulations for space missions including avionics. Our engineers develop criteria and plans for hardware testing as well as provide test operations, management, and oversight expertise.

MMOD DAMAGE RISK ASSESSMENT & PROTECTION

Using NASA’s BUMPR analysis software, our engineers provide expertise in modeling the ability of space craft and systems to withstand Micro Meteoroid Orbital Debris (MMOD) impacts and supply this data to government and commercial space vehicle providers. Our experience also includes hypervelocity impact testing.

ROBOTICS TECHNOLOGY

As aerospace robotics technology evolves, Barrios engineers are one step ahead as they provide research, engineering, development, integration, and application of robotic hardware and software technologies for specific flight and ground robotic system applications, such as Robonaut 2, ISS Mobile Servicing System, and the Remote Manipulator System.

LABORATORY & FACILITY MANAGEMENT

Barrios operates and manages the Class 100 laboratory as a clean room facility, which our scientists and engineers developed the requirements for and oversaw the build of. Here we curate samples of returned space materials and support to a Class 1000 cleanroom for our customers. In addition, our technicians provide laboratory support for Space Life Sciences.

ASTROMATERIALS SCIENCE

Barrios’ scientists are an integral part of the study of planetary and interstellar materials, extending our knowledge toward future space exploration.
