Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month – meet Shinichi Uno

As we continue to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, we introduce Shinichi Uno, Data Solutions Developer on our Human Space Flight Technical Integration Contract (HSFTIC) in Huntsville, AL, where he leads software development efforts.

According to Shinichi, AANHPI Heritage Month is a great opportunity to revisit history and recognize the accomplishments of our predecessors. “Being Japanese American resonates with me deeply. As a first-generation immigrant born and raised in Japan, I came to the United States to study abroad and achieve fluency in English.

“Now, as a parent of two children, I am dedicated to passing on my Japanese culture and customs to them. Ichi-go ichi-e () is a Japanese proverb emphasizing the unrepeatable nature of each moment. I use this philosophy to treasure my connections in and outside of work.”

Shinichi also dedicates time to empowering his local Japanese American community. “For more than 10 years, I taught at the Huntsville Japanese Supplementary School, providing Japanese education to Japanese students in America in their native language. Additionally, I volunteer by interpreting Japanese to English for Japanese cultural exchange organizations, such as the Tomodachi Summit and the local Huntsville Nichibei (Japan America) Club,” adds Shinichi.
